the Monorail! |
"What's this about a monorail?" you inquire.
"The Monorail? Ahhh, an excellent choice for where to visit next!" exclaims CyberPyro. Follow me!"
Once again, the exceedingly tall blonde tour-guide-for-a-day heads off down the corridor, causing your legs to pump frantically in order to keep up with his apparently 'leisurely' pace. Despite trailing behind him slightly, you can still hear his voice quite clearly.
"The Empire has designed an extensive monorail system that runs between here and several other key locations," he explains as he walks. "Although it isn't all operational or even close to finished yet in most cases, the line between here and WEDJEE HQ is in service. We had to get all those techs here somehow, right? So the tunnel was dug and the rail was laid surprisingly early in the construction process."
At this point, he pauses briefly at what appears to be a dark plexiglass panel on the wall. As he touches it, itsuddenly comes to life with lighted buttons of all shapes and sizes on it. He punches in a sequence of codes much too fast to be even vaguely recognizable, then slides a card into a slot that opens below the keypad. A few moments later, it spits the card back out and as he takes it a door opens beside the panel.
You stare dumbfoundedly at the door where there only moments before had been no door, and CP steps through it. He pauses, turns back, and grabs you by your shirt and drags you in with him. The door shuts quickly behind you.
A few soundless secons pass, then the door opens again into a wide open area. The two of you step out, and the door closes again.
"What..." you begin, only to be cut off as CyberPyro begins to speak again.
"Executive Express Elevator; Samhain's letting a bunch of the command staff use it while the other elevators get finished and updated," he explains rapidly. "Here we are, though! The Monorail terminal!"
You look around you briefly, taking in the vast expanse of grey marble flooring and ornate inlays of Doberman Pinciers in the concrete walls. A few nerdy-looking fellows are standing near a vacant track, apparently waiting. Then, in a blur of motion that your eyes can hardly follow, a train appears and stops on a dime.
"You see, the WEDJEE boys figured out how to keep that rail in a near superconductive state," he explains. "Don't have any idea how they do it, but they do. That allows the train to actually hover an inch or two above the rail. It's silent, smooth, and unbelievably quiet," he notes with some degree of reverence."
"Well, anyway, what would you like to do now?" he asks. "Would you like to head back, or would you like to see WEDJEE HQ?" he beams."
What do you decide? Do you...
